Industrial building in Tromsø evacuated after leak of flammable liquid

A leak of a combustible liquid forced the evacuation of an industrial building and nearby premises in Tromsø, with a 100-meter safety zone established.

A leak of a flammable liquid was detected in an industrial building located south of the Tverrforbindelsen roundabout in Tromsø, prompting officials to evacuate the structure and adjacent facilities. A safety perimeter of 100 metres was imposed following recommendations from the fire department, and the incident was overseen by Karl-Erik Thomassen, the operations leader for Troms politidistrikt. While the fire service judged the immediate danger to have lessened, the area remained classified as an explosion and fire risk, keeping the safety zone in place.

Access to Stakkevollvegen was expected to reopen soon, but other streets, including Grøholtvegen and Borgtunveien, stayed closed pending further assessment. Traffic was diverted through a tunnel, causing congestion and bus delays in the city centre.
