Ineffable Intelligence adds six former DeepMind and InstaDeep leaders as cofounders

Ineffable Intelligence, the London-based AI venture founded earlier this year by former DeepMind researcher David Silver, has appointed six high-profile cofounders. Four of them—Chris Apps, Wojciech Czarnecki, Lasse Espeholt and Junhyuk Oh—are former DeepMind colleagues who contributed to the 2019 AlphaStar breakthrough and Google’s MetNet weather AI. The fifth, Alexandre Laterre, previously led research at InstaDeep, while the sixth, Heather Gorham, was a partner at the venture firm Flying Fish that backed Ineffable’s seed round.

The new cofounders have revised their LinkedIn profiles to reflect the roles, and the startup confirmed the moves but declined further comment. Valued at $5 billion after raising a record-size seed round, Ineffable joins other “neolabs” such as Thinking Machines Labs and Safe Superintelligence in the race to build AI superintelligence using reinforcement learning and automated research techniques.
