Infantino commissions review of $2.1 billion funding request from UEFA and CONCACAF

Gianni Infantino, the head of FIFA, wrote to the presidents of the six continental confederations to order a formal assessment of a $2.1 billion funding request put forward by UEFA and CONCACAF. The two confederations propose that every one of FIFA’s 211 member associations receive a minimum of $10 million during the 2027-30 period, in addition to existing development aid, and call for one outlet's review of FIFA’s reserve funds, which they project to total roughly $6 billion by the end of 2026.

They contend that the suggested distribution would still preserve reserves above $1.5 billion for the following cycle. Infantino noted that the proposal will be examined by the FIFA Council on October 15, with any extra funding subject to financial scrutiny, approval procedures, and transparent audit requirements. He also reiterated his support for the highest level of additional funding that can be responsibly delivered through FIFA’s governance structures, while urging confederation leaders to respect the institution’s democratic processes.
