Influencer Manjeet Kaur dies after alleged kidnapping, burning in Punjab; police probe

Punjabi social media personality Manjeet Kaur passed away at PGIMER on August 26 while receiving treatment for extensive burn injuries sustained during an alleged kidnapping. According to her mother Kanta Devi, two acquaintances, Shubhi and Pinda, lured Kaur to Sector 34 in Chandigarh on the night of July 3-4, assaulted her, forced her into a vehicle and drove her to a forest near Morinda, where they tied her to a tree and set her on fire.

After the flames were extinguished, she was taken to a hospital in Morinda, then to Max Hospital in Mohali, and finally to PGIMER, where she regained consciousness and sought to file a statement. The PGI police post informed Kharar Sadar police of her condition, but the investigating officer did not reach the hospital, and no case was filed until after her death. Following the fatality, the police recorded an FIR based on her mother’s testimony and are now reviewing CCTV from Sector 34 and toll-plaza cameras to trace the vehicle used. The investigation also includes scrutiny of whether earlier complaints to Punjab Police were acted upon and whether the prior hospitals reported the medico-legal case.
