Inmates at Pisa's Don Bosco Prison Revolt Over Discovered Cell Microspies
A disturbance erupted at Pisa's Don Bosco prison after detainees found alleged surveillance devices in their cells and broadcast a TikTok live, prompting a standoff with police.
Detention officials say roughly 40 inmates have taken control of a wing of the Don Bosco prison in Pisa, refusing to leave until they can speak with the head of the prison police and the institution’s director. The uprising was sparked by a TikTok live broadcast in which an Albanian-origin prisoner alleged that the prison service had installed micro-spies and cameras in the cells after a prior evacuation. Prisoners, some appearing uninjured, said they were beaten with batons and demanded the right to privacy and free speech within their cells.
Police, carabinieri and prison guards have massed outside the facility, and a 118 ambulance is stationed inside. Authorities say negotiations are in progress, though the situation remains tense.
