Inside a Day of Oura Health CEO Tom Hale: Sleep, Data and Decision-Making
Tom Hale, chief executive of Oura Health, outlines how his personal sleep metrics and a structured routine shape his leadership of the smart-ring maker.
Since becoming Oura Health's chief executive in March 2022, Tom Hale has built his daily rhythm around the data his own wearable provides, waking naturally around 5 a.m. and adjusting his workload based on the ring's sleep score. After a quick shower and a two-minute breathing exercise, he reviews sales figures, eBay listings and curated newsletters such as The Information and Headlines, while limiting social-media time with a timer app.
A thirty-minute walk to the San Francisco office doubles as a podcast listening session and a chance for team calls, after which he creates a to-do list and shares his concerns in the all-hands “Keeping Me Up at Night” segment. His workspace is minimalist, featuring a standing desk and open floor plan, with a weekly cadence that dedicates Mondays to staff check-ins, Tuesdays to structured meetings, Wednesdays to ad-hoc tasks, Thursdays to customers and partners, and Fridays to deep work.
Lunch arrives at noon via a rotating order from Proper Food, and evenings are spent with his wife, reading, and a regulated bedtime routine that includes magnesium, melatonin and an Eight Sleep cooler. Weekends are reserved for family walks, poodle runs, backgammon and sauna sessions, underscoring his belief that consistent sleep and physical health are essential to managing the company's demands.
