Instamart adds battery-swap stations at dark stores to speed EV delivery adoption
Instamart will place Yuma Energy battery-swap units inside its dark-store PODs, starting with a new site in Bengaluru, to cut charging downtime for delivery riders.
Instamart disclosed plans to expand Yuma Energy’s battery-swapping network by dedicating space at its dark-store PODs for the stations, with the first installation launched in Bengaluru. The initiative, part of partnerships with Yulu and Yuma Energy, seeks to remove two practical barriers to electric two-wheelers: expensive upfront purchase and charging-related downtime. Each swap lasts less than two minutes, and placing stations near PODs could reduce travel and waiting time for riders by up to 60 minutes daily.
Instamart’s vice-president for driver and delivery, Anant Choudhary, said the effort aims to make EVs viable for everyday last-mile logistics. The company also provides rental-cashback incentives for partners who ride Yulu scooters, cutting rental expenses by up to 30 %. Together with Swiggy, Instamart works with more than 50 EV partners across India to broaden access to electric mobility for its delivery fleet.
