Intercity passengers and victims' relatives slated as witnesses in Tempi crash trial

The Tempi train disaster trial will hear testimony from five Intercity passengers and two victims' relatives this week, with additional witness requests pending.

The criminal proceedings concerning the Tempi railway disaster continue with two court sessions this week, featuring eight witnesses so far. Today three witnesses will appear, followed by five more on Tuesday, among them five passengers from the Intercity service and two family members of victims. Prosecutor Lucas Apostolidis intends to call former General Secretaries of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure from 2016-2023 and to request the exchange of safety documents between the Greek government and the European Commission.

He also plans to propose these measures despite scheduling conflicts. Additional motions include a request by Paul Aslanidis for analysis of debris collected at the Koulouri and Pigadia sites, and a burial request filed by Zoi Konstantopoulou on behalf of the Routsi family, to be addressed in a later hearing. The case accuses 36 current and former railway officials of dangerous interference with rail transport, carrying potential life-long imprisonment.
