Interim Environment Minister calls for alert status in Sintești over illegal waste fires

Interim Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu labeled the Sintești area a persistent source of pollution, noting that increased inspections and sanctions have not stopped illegal waste incineration. She formally requested the Ilfov and Bucharest prefectures to issue an alert, which would allow the installation of permanent filters at the four access points and ensure 24-hour surveillance. Buzoianu highlighted the need to check waste carriers, trace transport routes, and involve the police, ISCTR and the Gărzii de Mediu.

She warned that millions of residents in Bucharest and Ilfov are exposed daily to toxic particles from the fires. The minister stressed that ad-hoc actions are insufficient and that a coordinated effort with local authorities and sufficient personnel is essential to curb the problem.
