Interim government allocates funds to boost staffing and wages of local utility firms
The interim cabinet led by Ilie Bolojan approved financing for 22 local operators to increase salaries and fill vacant or new positions.
Ilie Bolojan's interim government sanctioned a package of funds for 22 local economic operators operating in 18 Romanian counties. The resources are earmarked for two main purposes: indexing salaries to the inflation rate and covering the costs of hiring for vacant posts or establishing new jobs. Beneficiary companies span a range of public-service areas such as water and sewage, waste collection, local transport, district heating, public-space upkeep and other municipal functions.
Officials said the support is needed to keep these essential services running smoothly. Among the larger requests, APA CTTA Alba will use the money for salary raises and to create dozens of new positions, while Transport Public SA Bacău plans wage increases for drivers and maintenance staff alongside a substantial hiring drive. The government presented the initiative as a step toward maintaining functional local administrations during a period of political uncertainty.
Why it matters
Funding helps local utilities keep essential services running and supports employment in public-sector jobs.
