Interim local elections held in four Hungarian towns amid mayoral resignations

Voters in four Hungarian municipalities are casting ballots in interim elections for mayors and council representatives. In Bátaszék, long-time independent mayor Bozsolik Róbert resigned after being named head of the Tolna County Government Office, and four independents—Kostyál Előd, Zsikó Zoltán, Kovács Norbert and Béres Judit—are competing for the mayor’s seat, with a voter list of over five thousand. Nikla’s council was dissolved, leading six independent mayoral candidates—Oláh Gergely, Hársházi Szabolcs, Heint Ágnes, Csizmadia Zoltán, Boros János Károly and Csonka Brigitta—and eighteen independents contesting four council seats, with more than six hundred voters in a single precinct.

In Sávoly, the council’s dissolution was initiated by Mayor Schuller Tibor, who cited retirement and the withdrawal of two council members, prompting two independents—Csallóné Matakovics Andrea and Szőke Csaba Ferenc—to run for mayor and eleven independents for four council seats, serving about four hundred voters. Üllő’s second single-member constituency will elect a new councilor after the previous holder resigned; three independents and a candidate from MI Hazánk are on the ballot, with roughly 1,300 local voters eligible. Polling runs from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
