Interim Transport Minister Radu Miruță announces removal of Danube bridge tolls

Interim Transport Minister Radu Miruță declared the cancellation of the Danube bridge tolls at Fetești and Vadu Oii, describing the move as eliminating an unfair charge. He attributed the reform to the TollRo system, a PNRR-backed initiative originally designed by former minister Cătălin Drulă, which also secured historic funding for Romanian transport. The revised legislation removes the bridge fee and introduces a distance-and-pollution based levy for heavy-vehicle traffic, mirroring a model used in 24 EU countries.

Miruță explained that the TollRo platform, managed by CNAIR, is now ready for operation and that staff previously dedicated to toll collection, numbering around 100, will be redeployed to support the new system. He praised the PNRR for enabling both the maintenance of current metro ticket prices and the removal of the redundant bridge tax, emphasizing the broader benefits for the state, citizens, and businesses.
