Interior Secretary Remulla to engage TBS members in Cavite amid ongoing crackdown
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced plans to meet TBS members in Cavite next week, while the government continues its crackdown on the group.
Jonvic Remulla, the Interior and Local Government Secretary, indicated he will begin a visit to Cavite next week to outline government policy to members of the True Brown Style (TBS) group, calling them rational individuals capable of constructive discussion. He added that stubborn behavior would prompt a response from authorities. The government has intensified a crackdown, recently apprehending 13 TBS members on allegations ranging from drug offenses to illegal weapon possession and theft.
Remulla also referenced a September 21 rally in Mendiola where 90 people were arrested, 55 of whom were identified as TBS affiliates, identified through intelligence networks and the group's hierarchy. TBS Worldwide cautioned against labeling all members as criminals, noting the organization originated in California about 25 years ago and now operates in roughly 78 Philippine provinces. President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has ordered the dismantling of the group, while Remulla emphasized the possibility of reform for willing members.
Why it matters
The meeting signals the government's dual approach of dialogue and enforcement toward a controversial group affecting public safety.
