Inter‑island ferry sinks off Vanuatu, dozens missing

An inter‑island ferry traveling between Santo and Ambae went down in rough seas, leaving dozens of passengers and crew unaccounted for. The vessel was carrying about 45 people, and rescue teams have rescued seven individuals while many remain missing. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Noumea, New Caledonia, is assisting the search, and a French Armed Forces aircraft located twelve people on Sunday. Authorities continue to search by land and sea, and nearby coastal communities have been asked to help locate any possible survivors.
