Interpol issues Red Notice for Serba Dinamik founder amid Malaysia's corporate crime crackdown

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that Interpol has placed a Red Notice on Serba Dinamik founder Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah, who is already wanted by Malaysia's Securities Commission.

In a Prime Minister's Question Time session in the Dewan Rakyat, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that Interpol has placed a Red Notice on Datuk Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah, the founder of Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd. The notice follows the Securities Commission Malaysia's decision to reopen investigations into Serba Dinamik's 2023 transactions and to extend the inquiry to related entities, including Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd, where Karim previously served as chairman.

Earlier this year, the commission secured an arrest warrant for the 61-year-old, accusing him of causing SCIB to submit a false statement to Bursa Malaysia under Section 369(b)(B) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007. Karim had previously faced charges in 2021 over false information in Serba Dinamik's financial reports, which were settled through a RM3 million compound. Anwar noted that the regulator has now filed 239 criminal charges against 50 individuals, reflecting a heightened enforcement drive after the 2022 withdrawal of all charges against Serba Dinamik. The international Red Notice underscores the expanding scope of Malaysia's anti-corporate-crime efforts.

Why it matters

It shows Malaysia's intensified effort to pursue corporate frauders, now with international police cooperation.
