Interpol launches "Silver Notice" system to help locate hidden criminal assets worldwide
Interpol has introduced a new "Silver Notice" alert that lets its 196 member nations share information on hidden cash, crypto, vehicles and property belonging to criminals.
Interpol unveiled a new color-coded alert called the Silver Notice, designed to assist law-enforcement agencies across its 196 member states in tracking concealed criminal wealth. The tool, which has been in trial since January 2025, allows authorities to broadcast requests for information on assets ranging from cash and cryptocurrency to vehicles, real estate and even livestock. Nicholas Court, director of task force coordination at Interpol, reported that 82 countries testing the system have uncovered at least €36 million in illicit holdings.
Italy was the first to issue a Silver Notice, seeking details on a high-ranking mafia member whose wealth was largely held abroad. Brazil responded by searching its databases and finding multiple assets tied to the individual and his associates, leading to ongoing discussions between the two nations about asset recovery. Full adoption of the system is slated for approval at Interpol’s general assembly in Hong Kong later this year.
Why it matters
The new alert system could help recover billions in criminal proceeds and disrupt transnational organized crime.
