Interpol-led raids across 17 nations result in 95 child-abuse suspects arrested

A coordinated Interpol operation spanning 17 countries led to the detention of 95 individuals accused of distributing child sexual abuse material online.

Interpol announced that coordinated police actions in 17 countries resulted in 95 arrests of people suspected of sharing child sexual abuse content on the internet. The operations, conducted from March to September, involved four separate raids and the execution of 127 search warrants across Latin America and Europe, including Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Ecuador and Panama. In Colombia, a five-year-old was rescued and a parent was detained for producing and selling images of the child.

Ecuadorian investigators found more than 4,000 files totaling about 15 GB in a suspect’s chat group, while Panamanian police captured the administrator of a group with over 700 members. Argentine police arrested a man accused of contacting over 260 girls worldwide and demanding increasingly explicit material under threat of exposure. Interpol warned that offenders are increasingly exploiting digital platforms to coordinate abuse and generate revenue.

Why it matters
