Inventia Healthcare recalls over 13,500 bottles of chlorthalidone tablets due to dissolution failure

Inventia Healthcare Limited, based in India, has issued a voluntary recall of 13,567 bottles of its 25 mg chlorthalidone tablets after the products did not meet dissolution standards, which could impair the drug's effectiveness. This recall, identified by batch numbers RISA24001, RISB24002, and RISA24002, comes after a previous recall of 11,460 bottles in June covering both 100-tablet and 1,000-tablet packs. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration labeled both recalls as Class II, meaning exposure may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects, though serious outcomes are unlikely.

Chlorthalidone, a diuretic used to lower blood pressure, may not work properly if it fails to dissolve, potentially increasing risks such as stroke or heart attack. Patients currently taking the recalled medication should contact their doctors before discontinuing, as abrupt cessation can raise blood pressure rapidly. The FDA advises that, for Class II recalls, consumers may continue using the product unless the company provides different instructions.
