Investigation report on Sepang UMNO chief to be forwarded to Attorney General's Chamber
Police have completed a probe into UMNO chief Noorazli's religious joke and will send the investigation paper to the Attorney General's Chamber for further action.
The criminal investigation department of Bukit Aman, led by director M Kumar, investigated UMNO chief Noorazli's joke that referenced a priest, a nun and a misattributed biblical verse. The probe invoked Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for hurting religious feelings and misusing network facilities. Authorities have logged eighty-six police reports and taken statements from ninety-three witnesses, ranging from the public to UMNO assembly organisers and the suspect himself.
The investigation paper is slated for submission to the Attorney General's Chamber for further direction. Following the incident at the UMNO general assembly, figures such as UMNO Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, Sabah UMNO treasurer Salleh Said Keruak and Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau demanded an apology, which Noorazli offered on Monday. The Catholic Lawyers’ Society of Kuala Lumpur also lodged a report, and national unity minister Aaron Ago Dagang urged authorities to act, emphasizing that religious symbols should not be used in sexually themed jokes.
