Investor Ross Gerber urges shoppers to buy iPhone 17 before new models launch

Ross Gerber, a major Tesla investor, told followers that strong iPhone 17 sales and unchanged pricing make it a good time to purchase before the upcoming iPhone 18.

Ross Gerber, who co-founded Gerber Kawasaki Wealth & Investment Management and is known as a prominent Tesla shareholder, advised consumers on X to consider buying the iPhone 17 now rather than waiting for the next model. He cited a conversation with Apple Store staff who said sales remain strong even as Apple raises prices on other hardware. The iPhone 17’s base 256 GB version is priced at $799 in the United States, with the Pro and Pro Max starting at $1,099 and $1,199 respectively, and Gerber expects the price to increase when the iPhone 18 arrives in September.

Industry analysts such as TrendForce and Gene Munster predict the iPhone 18 could face higher component costs, potentially leading Apple to raise prices by up to $125. Despite these pressures, Apple reported iPhone revenue of $54.25 billion for its fiscal third quarter, up from $44.58 billion a year earlier. Gerber concluded that the current sales environment makes the iPhone 17 a timely purchase.

Why it matters
