Investors Spotlight 25 High-Growth Robotics Startups Driving the Physical AI Boom

A record $16.3 billion was invested in physical-AI firms in Q1 2026, and investors have highlighted 25 robotics startups they consider most promising.

Physical-AI startups attracted a record $16.3 billion across 492 transactions in Q1 2026, signalling a renewed appetite for hardware after years of software-centric funding. One outlet asked 14 investors from across the robotics venture ecosystem to nominate two firms each—one from their own portfolio and one in which they have no financial interest—to identify the most promising players. The resulting alphabetized list of 25 companies includes AI platform builders like FieldAI, Generalist and Skild, humanoid manufacturers such as Unitree, Walden and Sunday Robotics, and niche specialists targeting metalworking, drug testing, strawberry picking and more.

Start-ups range from Y Combinator graduates to a firm preparing for a Shanghai IPO, reflecting the sector’s rapid diversification. While researchers caution that many technologies remain unproven, the volume of capital and the variety of applications suggest robotics could become a major growth engine for the broader AI economy.

Why it matters

The surge in funding and diverse startup activity shows robotics is becoming a central pillar of the next AI-driven economic expansion.
