IOC chief meets German city representatives as Olympic bid options are weighed

At the Aachen equestrian championships, IOC president Kirsty Coventry met with senior officials from Germany's three prospective Olympic host cities: Berlin, Munich and the Cologne Rhine Ruhr region. The discussion, attended by North Rhine-Westphalia premier Hendrik Wüst, Bavaria interior minister Joachim Herrmann and Berlin governing mayor Kai Wegner, centered on broader sports development topics rather than the upcoming bid selection.
The German Olympic Sports Confederation is slated to decide on September 26 which city will represent Germany for a possible 2036, 2040 or 2044 Summer Olympics. The eventual German candidate will face strong competition from nations such as Qatar and India. Coventry also used the occasion to meet leaders of major German sports federations and watched an individual dressage final.
