iOS 27 beta causes Digital ID to vanish from iPhone Wallet

Users testing the iOS 27 beta reported that their Digital ID entries disappeared from the Wallet app, though the issue can be resolved by re-adding the passport.

During testing of the iOS 27 beta, a number of iPhone owners discovered that their Digital ID, a digital passport stored in the Wallet app, was unexpectedly removed. This capability, launched with iOS 26, allows travelers to present a digital version of their passport at TSA security lines across more than 250 U.S. airports, though it does not replace a physical passport for international entry. The glitch appears limited to the beta and can be fixed by deleting the missing entry and adding the passport again.

Apple acknowledges that while the beta brings speed enhancements, it remains unfinished software that may still crash or behave unpredictably. Users are advised to avoid installing beta releases on devices they rely on daily, or to limit such installations to secondary iPhones. The full iOS 27 release is expected later, but the issue serves as a reminder of the trade-offs involved in early software testing.

Why it matters

The bug shows that beta operating systems can disrupt essential travel features, urging caution for everyday device use.
