Iran and Oman foreign ministers discuss Yemen conflict and Strait of Hormuz stability

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr Albusaidi held a phone call to talk about Yemen and regional stability.

A statement posted on Araghchi’s Telegram channel said the two ministers discussed the latest developments in Yemen and explored options for peace in the region. The conversation took place amid a rise in Iranian attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. In June, Oman and Iran agreed to form a joint working group to negotiate future navigation management under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Why it matters

The talks could influence the Yemen conflict and shipping security in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
