Iran Calls for Inclusive Political Talks to End Saudi-Houthi Conflict
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged a comprehensive political process to settle the fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi rebels.
At a conference of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Baghdad, Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi declared Tehran's support for a broad, inclusive political process to resolve the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi movement. He emphasized that such a diplomatic route is the only practical and lasting option and repeated Iran's willingness to act as a mediator, despite Saudi officials saying Riyadh has not answered the overture.
The remarks followed a series of Houthi attacks on Saudi energy facilities and Riyadh's international airport that left 13 dead, as well as Iran's denial of any role in those operations. Araghchi warned that regional security must be built together, or all parties will share the burden of insecurity. He also signaled Iran's readiness to cooperate with neighboring states to achieve stability.
Why it matters
The proposal could shape future diplomatic efforts to halt a volatile regional conflict affecting oil markets and civilian safety.
