Iran Calls for Regional Nations to Create Indigenous Security Framework

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament, posted on X that stability in the region can only be achieved through a security architecture devised by the countries themselves, and that Iran stands prepared to assist. His statement mirrors President Xi Jinping’s speech at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where he urged the bloc to promote universal security and push back against hegemony, unilateralism and protectionism.

The SCO gathering, celebrating its 25th anniversary, featured Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian as the nation’s representative. Ghalibaf highlighted that the principle of common security has long been championed by Iran. The call seeks to shift the security paradigm from external dependence to regional self-reliance.
