Iran Displays Downed US F-15E Strike Eagle as Propaganda Trophy
Iran has mounted the wreckage of the F-15E “Dude 44” shot down in April as a public exhibit, joining other captured US hardware on display.
In early April, an F-15E Strike Eagle known as “Dude 44” was shot down over Iran during Operation Epic Fury, the first stage of the ongoing hostilities. Both pilots ejected safely and were rescued, while the aircraft was recovered by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and turned into a propaganda exhibit. The jet, serial 00-3000 from the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath, had been famous for displaying kill marks from at least nine drone kills with AIM-9X missiles.
Iran has already displayed other captured US assets, including MQ-1 Predators, MQ-9 Reapers, and previously seized Israeli equipment, and now showcases the F-15E’s canopy alongside them. The exhibit arrives as the war approaches a six-month milestone, the Strait of Hormuz stays effectively shut, and US weapon stocks in the region are reported depleted. Analysts note that Iran’s ability to down a modern fighter is rare since the Iran-Iraq war, and the public display serves both as a morale boost for Tehran and a warning to its adversaries.
