Iran's Supreme Leader appoints six senior officers to top military posts

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei issued a set of decrees appointing six senior officers to key military roles. Major General Ali Abdollahi became chief of staff of the armed forces, with Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari as his deputy. In the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi was elevated to major general and named commander-in-chief, while Major General Mostafa Izadi was designated his deputy.

Rear Admiral Ali Azmaei was assigned to lead the IRGC navy, and Hojjatoleslam Walmuslimin Hossein Taeb took charge of the Basij Resistance Force. These appointments continue a recent series of senior security changes, such as former IRGC commander Mohsen Rezaee’s appointment as the Supreme Leader’s representative to the Supreme National Security Council, replacing Mohammad Baqir Zolghadr. The reshuffle was announced alongside President Masoud Pezeshkian’s statement that the Supreme Leader is "completely healthy."
