Iran urges UN to condemn US and Israel's alleged threats over MOAB

Iran's UN envoy Gholamhossein Darzi asked the secretary-general and Security Council to denounce what he called unlawful threats from the United States and Israel, including talk of using the MOAB bomb against Iranian infrastructure.

Iran's envoy to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, sent a formal letter urging the UN secretary-general and the president of the Security Council to condemn the United States and Israel for what he described as repeated unlawful threats. The Iranian diplomat emphasized Tehran's right to self-defence against any hostile act and highlighted the danger of the Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) being used against Iranian civilian and energy infrastructure.

He argued that threatening to deploy the "Mother of All Bombs" violates international law. Darzi also called on the Security Council to demand that Washington and Tel Aviv cease these threats and to seek accountability and reparations for any damage caused by such actions. The appeal reflects heightened tensions between Iran and the two countries over regional security concerns.

Why it matters

The plea signals rising diplomatic friction and could influence UN discussions on Middle-East security.
