Iranian foreign minister secures U.S. diplomatic protection for UN meeting
Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi asked the United States for security assistance during the UN General Assembly in New York, and the State Department agreed to provide Diplomatic Security Service personnel.
During the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi formally requested protection from potential threats. The U.S. State Department conducted a threat assessment and decided to assign agents from its Diplomatic Security Service to guard him. Both Iranian and American delegations are expected to be present at the same time, prompting the security arrangement.
