Iranian leader accuses US and Israel of terrorism at UN, prompting US walkout

During the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered a speech accusing the United States and Israel of terrorism and genocide, citing images of Iranian civilian casualties he said resulted from US airstrikes. As he began these allegations, a US diplomat left the main hall in protest. Pezeshkian, protected by the US Secret Service, also rejected claims that Iran supports terrorism and asserted that Tehran would not capitulate to US-Israeli pressure.

He reiterated Iran's claim to a peaceful civilian nuclear program while denying any intent to develop atomic weapons. Outside the UN, the National Council of Resistance of Iran helped stage a "Free Iran" rally, with chants demanding Pezeshkian's removal and calls for democratic reforms and gender equality. The incident came after the Iranian delegation walked out during Donald Trump's speech the previous day, highlighting escalating diplomatic tensions.
