Iranian official visits New York, signals openness to US talks and nuclear inspections

Masoud Pezeshkian traveled to New York for the opening of the UN General Assembly and used the occasion to address US-Iran relations. In an interview he affirmed Iran’s readiness to implement any commitments made with Washington and outlined a seven-day plan that would halt hostilities and reopen the Hormuz Strait contingent on a cease-fire. He also offered to let UN nuclear inspectors verify concerns about Iran’s nuclear program.

Pezeshkian criticized the United States for what he described as daily attacks and broken promises. The United States, meanwhile, has rejected the proposed timetable. The exchange underscores the ongoing diplomatic friction in the Middle East.
