Iranian president rejects nuclear weapons claim and urges talks with Georgia

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran does not pursue nuclear weapons, expressed willingness to negotiate and condemned U.S. sanctions during a meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in Yerevan.

At a UN biodiversity conference in Yerevan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and rejected accusations that Tehran is pursuing nuclear weapons, calling such propaganda false. He reiterated Iran’s readiness for diplomatic engagement and criticized U.S. sanctions as unjustifiable and inhumane. The discussion also covered plans to deepen Iran-Georgia ties, with Pezeshkian urging a clear timetable for cooperation.

Kobakhidze emphasized the need for dialogue and de-escalation in regional security matters. Georgia’s Civil Aviation Agency said it would comply with the U.S. sanctions regime, while the Georgian government asserted it is not imposing separate sanctions on Iran. The meeting follows recent cuts to aviation links after U.S. measures targeted Iranian airlines.
