Iranian security chief and India's national security adviser discuss regional issues by phone
Iran’s National Security Council secretary Mohsen Rezaei spoke with India’s national security adviser Ajit Doval, exchanging views on regional developments and bilateral matters.
Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, held a telephone call with India’s National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval, on Monday evening, according to a post by the Iranian Embassy in India. The officials discussed the latest regional and international developments and issues of mutual interest, including the state of bilateral ties. The dialogue occurs as the Gulf region faces escalating security incidents, notably a drone attack on the Nicaragua-flagged tanker MT Petro Dolphin at Sohar Anchorage that left two Indian crew members missing and nine rescued.
In a separate incident, the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker M/T Valthera, carrying eleven Indian seafarers, was struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire but no injuries. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said Indian authorities are coordinating with local coast-guard units to locate the missing personnel and monitor the safety of Indian nationals at sea.
Why it matters
The call highlights diplomatic coordination between Iran and India as both navigate rising maritime security threats in the Gulf.
