Iraqi IS sympathizer detained in Brandenburg for plotting attacks on German sites
German federal prosecutors say an Iraqi national suspected of supporting IS was arrested in Barnim, Brandenburg, after planning attacks on what he called "non-believers" and scouting a church in Bremen.
Authorities from the Bundesanwaltschaft reported that the suspect, an Iraqi citizen, coordinated with others in the spring of 2025 to devise terror plots targeting sites he deemed "Ungläubige." He reportedly surveyed a Bremen church as a potential target and tried to recruit another individual, though further recruitment attempts failed. The man is now being held in pre-trial detention.
