IRCTC's revamped booking platform faces widespread outages and user backlash

Travelers report repeated "Unable to Process Request" errors on IRCTC's new website and app as demand spikes during the festival season.

Since the beta launch of a redesigned IRCTC website in July 2026, travelers have encountered persistent "Unable to Process Request" alerts and rapid conversion of train availability to "regret" status. The issues are most acute during the current festival travel rush, when the reservation system recorded a peak of 22.26 lakh tickets in one day. Users on social media describe the platform as unresponsive, with some suspecting bot activity, though no evidence has been confirmed.

The Railway Ministry promoted the new interface as cleaner and with fewer CAPTCHAs, yet passengers say the underlying capacity problems remain. The mobile IRCTC Rail Connect app, recently updated, is also reported as malfunctioning. Downdetector’s monitoring shows a surge in user reports across website, app, and ticketing categories, indicating a broader service disruption.
