Irish High Court delays abuse lawsuit pending approval of $120 million US settlement
The Irish High Court postponed a case brought by a US woman alleging her childhood sexual-abuse videos were posted on Pornhub-linked sites, awaiting approval of a $120 million settlement in a US class action.
Jane Doe, a US resident, alleges she was drugged and sexually assaulted as a child and that the perpetrator recorded the abuse, later distributing the videos on adult platforms operated by the MindGeek (renamed AYLO) group, including Pornhub. She initiated a class action in the United States and parallel proceedings in the Irish High Court against multiple AYLO-affiliated entities, accusing them of GDPR breaches, conspiracy and privacy violations, and seeking aggravated damages and orders to remove the content.
The Irish defendants include AYLO Billing, Mirmay, Nutaku Publishing, Appatomic, Liquidum, MG Freesites Ltd, MG Freesites II Ltd, AYLO Premium Ltd, MG Social Ltd, MindGeek USA Incorporated and MindGeek SARL, all registered in Dublin or Luxembourg. In the US, the parties agreed to a $120 million settlement that also mandates substantial site reforms to safeguard children. Irish barrister Robert O’Reilly requested an adjournment so the Irish court can consider the pending US settlement approval. Judge Brian Cregan granted a six-month postponement, pushing the hearing to March.
Why it matters
The case underscores legal pressure on major porn platforms to address child-abuse content and the challenges of cross-border litigation.
