Irish man dies after taxi collision on Madrid's Ronda de Toledo
A 52-year-old Irish man died in a Madrid hospital after being struck by a taxi on Ronda de Toledo early Sunday.
Around 2.20 am on Sunday, a 52-year-old Irish man was hit by a taxi on the busy Ronda de Toledo near Puerta de Toledo in Madrid's Arganzuela neighbourhood. Police arriving at the scene found him in cardiac arrest, administered CPR and succeeded in reviving his pulse before emergency services took over. He was rushed to Hospital Clínico San Carlos in critical condition and was declared dead shortly after arrival.
Eyewitnesses, including two passengers in the taxi, said the man was trying to cross the road at an unauthorized location. The taxi driver remained at the scene, underwent alcohol and drug testing that returned negative, and is cooperating with the police investigation, which will be forwarded to the magistrate’s court.
