Irish Prime Minister warns Israel is facing growing global isolation over Gaza campaign

At the United Nations headquarters in New York, Ireland’s Taoiseach Micheál Martin told reporters that Israel is “increasingly becoming isolated” due to what he described as excessive and disproportionate military tactics in Gaza. His comments come as a wave of world leaders have denounced Israel’s bombing campaign, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of possible ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. Martin said the growing diplomatic pressure could affect Israeli society, though its exact impact remains uncertain.

He also spoke about Ireland’s domestic concerns, emphasizing that soaring fuel and home-heating costs are a critical issue for families this winter and that the upcoming budget will target energy relief. In conversations with Jordan, Martin learned that the country’s ability to deliver aid to Gaza has been hampered by past events, which he called “shocking tactics” by the Israeli government. Later on Thursday, Martin will focus his UN General Assembly speech on the Middle East, Ukraine and Sudan, while also addressing domestic topics such as citizenship application timelines and fairness in the asylum process.
