iRobot unveils Roomba Max 875 with carpet-sealing technology at Berlin IFA

At this week’s IFA exhibition in Berlin, iRobot presented its newest flagship, the Roomba Max 875 Combo, equipped with a novel SealForce sealing mechanism that lowers a skirt around the cleaning head on carpet to improve airflow. Chief engineer Adam Pope said the system, combined with a vane-type blower moving 20 L/s, enables three-fold deeper carpet cleaning and provides the highest published suction of 35,000 Pa. The robot also functions as a mop, featuring a heated mist spray called ThermaMist, a retractable mop cover, and an auto-empty/wash dock that cleans and dries the mop.

A mid-range Roomba Plus 678 Combo shares the sealing tech but offers 30,000 Pa suction, 18 L/s airflow, and a SprayForce fluid-spray system instead of mist. Both units support Alexa, Google Home and Siri Shortcuts and are undergoing Matter certification. Competitors such as Narwal and Dreame have similar sealing approaches, but iRobot’s bundle of SealForce, ThermaMist and anti-tangle brushes aims to narrow the gap with rivals.
