Israel and Greece seal €3 billion multi-layered air defence contract
Israel and Greece signed a defence agreement valued at about €3 billion to build a comprehensive air-defence system for Athens.
Israel and Greece concluded an arms export contract worth roughly €3 billion, according to a statement from the Israeli Defence Ministry. The agreement will see Israel supply a full suite of home-grown air-defence solutions, including Rafael's David's Sling and SPYDER missiles and Israel Aerospace Industries' BARAK MX system, to create a layered shield for Greek territory. The arrangement is a key component of Greece’s "Achilles Shield" programme, a €28 billion effort to field anti-ballistic, anti-aircraft and anti-drone capabilities by 2036. Greece already operates a mix of US Patriot, Russian S-300 and other short-range systems, and the new deal complements ongoing purchases of US jets and French-Italian warships. The two nations, long partners in economics and diplomacy, have been negotiating the contract for about three years and regularly conduct joint training and exercises.
