Israel uses aid and medical clinics to tighten grip on southern Syria

In southern Syria, the Israeli army is distributing food, medicine and basic supplies while supporting new clinics to reinforce its territorial influence.

The Israeli military is actively supplying humanitarian assistance in southern Syria, aiming to cement its control over the region. Aid deliveries have featured staples such as rice and flour, as well as medical supplies that support newly opened clinics in Quneitra. Residents also receive packaged food from Israeli brand Royameal, while empty boxes bearing the Gleanings for the Hungry logo litter local streets.

Despite the assistance, the area still shows scars of the civil war, with bullet impacts on house facades and waste strewn across gardens. Bilal, a former combatant with the al-Nosra front and al-Furqan brigades, confirms he obtained at least five kilograms of food in the most recent shipment. Observers note that the dual strategy of relief provision and infrastructure development serves both humanitarian and geopolitical objectives.

Why it matters

The aid campaign reveals how Israel blends humanitarian aid with strategic influence in a volatile border region.
