Israeli and Palestinian activists rally UN support for peace initiative
Israeli hostel owner Maoz Inon and Palestinian guide Aziz Abu Sarah have persuaded 14 of the 15 UN Security Council members to back their peace proposal.
Maoz Inon, an Israeli hostel operator, and Aziz Abu Sarah, a Palestinian tour guide, connected through a sympathetic WhatsApp message concerning family tragedies. Building on that dialogue, they launched a joint peace campaign that included a TED talk in California and a bestselling book now available in German. Their message has reached the United Nations, several national legislatures and numerous international media outlets.
So far, 14 of the 15 members of the UN Security Council have expressed support for their vision of a peaceful Middle East. They are still working to secure the final vote needed to advance the proposal.
Why it matters
The initiative shows rare Israeli-Palestinian cooperation influencing global diplomatic bodies toward peace.
