Small Israeli quadcopter drones have been firing on civilians in Gaza, including a recent incident that killed a man during a burial.
On June 10, 2025, a small quadcopter drone hovered over the Ibn Marwan Mosque minaret in Gaza's Shujaiya district and opened fire on a group attending a burial, killing Mustafa Mushtaha after he was shot in the back. The victim's companion, Sadeq Abdelhafiz, described the chaotic scene and the lack of medical supplies in the ambulance that transported the body to Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, where Mushtaha died despite emergency care.
Israeli forces have deployed two armed quadcopter models—the civilian-origin Matrice 600 and the purpose-built Lanius—since at least 2018, using them for tear-gas drops, targeted killings, and broader strikes after the October 2023 conflict began. Recent attacks in 2026 have wounded a father and critically injured his 13-year-old son in Khan Younis, and killed a child while another was injured near Al-Omari Mosque. Human-rights monitors report that most child gunshot injuries in Gaza stem from these drones. Israeli officials have likened the drones' operation to playing a video game, emphasizing their speed and precision.
