Israeli authorities dismantle Hamas-linked network planning restaurant attack

Police and security forces uncovered a Hamas-linked cell that intended to turn a restaurant where an employee worked into a terrorist target.

A joint statement from the Israel Police, Israel Security Agency and an Israeli militia announced the disruption of a large Hamas-affiliated network. The group, comprising more than 30 operatives from Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria, recruited armed cells, secured weapons and sought explosive-making guidance. Investigators say the plot centered on a restaurant employee who was to facilitate the attack on civilians and security personnel.

Why it matters

The bust reveals a sizable Hamas network inside Israel and counters the myth of lone-wolf terrorism.
