Israeli forces detain Hebron activist Issa Amro for seven hours

Israeli authorities held Palestinian activist Issa Amro for seven hours at a military base, blindfolded and handcuffed, after he approached a settlement.

On Friday, Israeli security personnel detained Palestinian activist Issa Amro, the leader of Hebron’s Youth Against Settlements group, and held him for seven hours at a military base. According to Israeli attorney Michael Sfard, Amro was kept incommunicado, blindfolded and handcuffed behind his back, and was reportedly mistreated during the detention. The authorities said the action was taken because Amro approached a nearby settlement.

Amro, who has previously complained of harassment by settlers and the military following his appearance in one outlet's documentary, was released later that night. Sfard confirmed that Amro left the facility unharmed. The incident adds to ongoing tensions over settlement activity and the treatment of Palestinian activists in the West Bank.
