IT outage forces all Northern Norway hospitals to revert to paper records
A system failure in the Metavision electronic patient record platform has disabled medication and vital sign documentation across every hospital in Northern Norway, prompting a switch back to manual paper charts.
The electronic system Metavision, used for recording medication, vital signs and treatment progress, stopped working after a major upgrade on Sunday. Einar Bugge, deputy managing director of the University Hospital of North Norway (UNN), said the crisis team is meeting regularly and has ordered a return to the old paper-based charting method that was last used about three years ago. The outage affects all hospitals under the Helse Nord health authority, raising concerns about potential medication errors.
