Italian authorities charge Milan academic Youssef S. as mastermind of violent youth protests

Milan police and state security prosecutors have arrested 30-year-old scholar Youssef S., accusing him and his wife Sagia H. of orchestrating recent violent youth demonstrations in Italy.

Italian prosecutors claim that Youssef S., a 30-year-old academic of Moroccan descent, acted as the hidden organizer behind recent violent youth protests in Milan and other cities. He is accused of encouraging terrorist-purpose crimes, organized violence at public events, and subversive activities, while his wife Sagia H. is alleged to have participated as a co-offender, though she remains free. The unrest, which unfolded over two weekends, saw youths ransack shops, break windows and erect barricades, resulting in roughly 100 police injuries and more than 250 demonstrators being detained temporarily.

Youssef S. is portrayed by investigators as an intellectual who used online channels, under the name "Movement 17 October," to urge further vandalism and coordinate street actions. He has refused to speak to investigators. If convicted on the most serious charge of terrorism and subversion, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
