Italian businessman Chico Forti granted daytime semi-liberty after 26 years
Chico Forti, convicted of the 1998 murder of Anthony Dale Pike, has been allowed to leave Verona's Montorio prison during the day and must return at night.
Former Trentino entrepreneur Chico Forti, serving a sentence for the 1998 murder of Anthony Dale Pike, received a semi-liberty order from the Tribunale di sorveglianza. The decision permits him to leave the Montorio prison in Verona during daytime while requiring his return each night. Earlier, his lawyers had sought parole, which the Cassazione denied, citing insufficient remorse and failure to provide restitution.
This new judgment overturns that denial and reflects the diplomatic maneuvering that brought Forti back to Italy under the Meloni administration. Throughout his incarceration, Forti has consistently proclaimed his innocence. The semi-liberty arrangement represents a notable change in his confinement conditions.
