Italian court hands over seven-year sentences to Moroccan men for assault on Hungarian tourists
A criminal court in Catania sentenced two Moroccan men to just over seven years in prison for a group sexual assault on two Hungarian tourists, with a third accomplice receiving a slightly longer term.
The Catania criminal court delivered first-instance verdicts, imposing 7 years and 2 months on each of the two Moroccan perpetrators and 7 years and 4 months on their third associate. The convictions cover the coordinated sexual assault, drug possession and forcing the victims to consume narcotics. The case proceeded under an accelerated procedure, which reduced the potential punishment by a third. The victims' lawyer, Massimiliano Scaringella, emphasized that such crimes should not occur in Italy.
